YOU HAVE A LOT OF COMPETITION FOR YOUR CLIENTS’ EYES
Don’t sit around in cement shoes and whine about it whenever some new technology or new competition in the real estate business comes along. Just understand that that is business. There’s a lot of competition for your clients’ eyes out there. Just embrace this as a fact and then — think of how you can strategically compete for those eyeballs. Why fret about Google when there are low-tech things an agent can do to win at this game?
YOU ARE RISKING YOUR RELATIONSHIP BY WAITING BACK
Do not sit back and let technology “do its thing” with your clients or leads. Get in there and add value. Don’t wait for the fish to jump in the boat! Look at what these people are looking at and add some insightful information. Show them that even though they can find a lot of information online, YOU are still an indispensable guide for them. You still have proprietary access to the MLS.
LEVERAGE YOUR ACCESS TO THE SOURCE (MLS)
One thing that didn’t change because of the advent of technology is that the Multiple Listing Service (MLS) is still the marketplace. You and I as agents are still the source of garnering those listings and putting them into our marketplace. Yes, the access has been sold away to the rest of the world — but you are still the source. You’re a paying member of the MLS. A tech company isn’t going to have the same insights in to your marketplace as a boots-on-the-ground agent. Leverage your access to MLS with clients and be proactive in giving them insights into your area.
BE PROACTIVE AND HUNT FOR RELEVANT INFORMATION
Look for information that his hyper-relevant to your clients and proactively give it to them. No technology company can do this for them! They can have all the real estate apps in the world at their fingertips but what they still lack is your insight, guidance and relevant information. Be ready for them! Drop everything when they need you and go on the hunt with them.
TECHNOLOGY IS ONLY A THREAT TO THE LAZY AGENTS!
I’m not trying to hurt you with this statement; my goal is to provoke you to think. Do you freeze up and stop being proactive because there’s so much technology competing for your clients’ eyes? Take action. Small business is ruthless. Real estate agency is ruthless. It gets easier when you take the bull by the horns and take control. Your clients can leverage technology, but they still need your insights and guidance.
